Marshall, the county seat of Harrison County, Texas, has a population of about 25,000 residents. It is located on Interstate Highway I-20, U.S. 59, and Historic U.S. Highway 80, about 150 miles east of Dallas, and about 40 miles west of Shreveport.
Its economy is strong and diverse, and the oil and gas industry continues to play a major role in economic development

Area communities include Kilgore, Gladewater, Mineola, Longview, Grand Saline, Mt. Pleasant, and Henderson. 


Marshall and Harrison County were important political and production areas of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. This area of Texas was developed for cotton plantations. Planters brought slaves with them from other regions or bought them in the domestic slave trade.
